  • Covid-19 airway is more inflamed and frail, therefore more prone to trauma
  • Advocating video laryngoscope + bougie in Covid-19 Intubation to achieve first pass success & reduce the risk of bougie-related tracheal trauma
  • Never advance the bougie blindly and by force
  • Do not pass the bougie > 8 cm after vocal cord
  • Multidisciplinary evaluation is recommended should such airway trauma occur

Large-Bore Suction Device/Catheter + SALAD (Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy for Airway Decontamination) +/- Epiglottoscopy with ‘Mac-D Technique’

Decontaminate with suction as lead

Place laryngo-blade (VL > DL)

Park suction catheter by moving it to left of the blade

Airway is cleared with continuous suction

Intubate with ‘Mac-D Technique’

Achieving First-Pass Success
